Accelerate your Career in Physics

What can I do after my degree? Can I work in Berlin-Brandenburg? What kind of tasks will I get in my first job? We would like to address your questions about career options for physicists with a focus on optics and photonics, to improve information for students.

Join us at the career event “Working in Photonics 2026" on Thursday, March 26th, 2026 at Max-Born-Saal.

Many students that are about to complete or have recently completed their degree in physics (Bachelor/Master/PhD) do not yet have a clear idea about their career path. There is usually only limited information about the various career options in industry and academia. At this event, we would like to discuss your questions and interests, to provide better information for students. We will also give you some insights into possible career paths in research and industry.

The event consists of two parts: We will start with short presentations, followed by an informal networking session (including snacks and drinks) with time for questions and discussions in smaller groups.

If you are looking to find out more about career paths in physics, with a focus on optics and photonics, and help us provide better information for physics students, this is the right event for you!

Short talks (18:00 –20:00) and networking session / “Meet the Experts” (20:00 – 21:00)

Please see more information, registration and the program here.

The event is free, but spaces are limited, please register.

Please feel free to contact us, if you have any questions or if you want to present something!

This event is based on previous activities by the Berlin Optik Student Chapter.

We are looking forward to seeing you at our first “Working in Photonics" event in 2026.

Next Working in Photonics edition will take place on Tuesday, November 24, 2026 at Leibniz- Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam (AIP)
